Dooble - a yacy browser

Beitragvon dooble » Di Sep 09, 2008 6:49 pm

Hello,

we create the browser http://dooble.sf.net and want to integrate YaCy.
Is someone interested to join the project to help us? Would be nice to have a person or two joining our team, as maybe the default ppm or DHT modus needs to be adjusted.
Thanks for a feedback.

dooble.

I'll make an installer (Windows) with silent install option for you after the next release.
You have to install YaCy separately because startup takes some time and would not finish whilst the browser starts.

thanks, what is your sf.net ID? then we can subscribe you to the non-public mailinglist and project to read the archive.
start YaCy seperately? we thought of a start with the browser, though then the search might be usable only after a few minutes... We see then later and discuss on the mailinglist. Please provide a sf.net ID, thanks.

great idea to integrate YaCy into a browser!

I think thats a good idea. But beside that problem I think some more features are necessary to make YaCy working as part of another application. For example:
- strict memory limitation (however it is done)
- smaller application size (we can remove all external parsers and leave only html there. this will shrink YaCy from 16 MB to approx. 2.5 MB in size - hopefully)
- smart shut-down behaviour (databases must be made resistent against missing correct closing)

I believe all this is possible .. not at once. Maybe your can start to integrate YaCy just as it is and we work on integration features over the time.

Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Really interesting coincidence - I experimented these days with Mozilla XUL-Runner to build a YaCy rich client based on common multi platform Mozilla browser technology.

Code: Alles auswählen
Technically we use Qt port of gecko engine, skin theme like chrome and add yacy search and RM Messaging to the browser. Developers with c++, qt and java skills (or skinning or installer skills) are welcome to join our team for this exciting project and team.

May I ask, why you have chosen the Qt port of gecko for your project?
I would have guessed that a XUL-Runner application that offers Mac, Windows, Linux and with little adjustments even a Firefox Plugin out of the box (without the need of programming c++) would be much more straight forward.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to a YaCy enabled Browser.

Oh, hi zobel, or should i say goldeneye?

Nice to see you back, and a project which bundles firefox, yacy an retroshare is a really good idea.

I just wanted to add, that domain http://www.getadooble.com is an alternative domain for later, if there is any progress.
