Chrooted yacy

Beitragvon andmed » So Apr 07, 2013 3:36 pm

Hello

I would like to try yacy at my server, but I can only do it in chroot

I have experience installing pretty hard things in chroot but not something based on java, no. That seems to be challenging. Had anyone succeeded in installing yacy in chroot, please, or I would better drop this idea altogether from the very beginning?

Also, would there be any difficulties if I use a bit outdated system, say, debian lenny?

Thanks
andmed

Well-well

I've done it

What I have to complain about now - it lets admin access open to anyone on a PUBLIC IP address. That is really BAD for default configuration... I stoppped it until I find out how I can disable this.

As I have several interfaces I am also looking for option to enable YACY only for selected net interfaces...

access without a password should only be possible if you access the interface from the same IP.
During the first 10 minutes the access is open to anyone, but then a random password is set.

I ended up with segfaults... YACY works though, but it is worring. I think it is because of chroot.

I don't see that this is related to YaCy. YaCy can run in any place of the file system and especially chroot-ing would not be harmfull because running YaCy just there where you decompress it is the default. The only place where YaCy stores its data is the DATA subdirectory inside YaCy. All other configurations (debian, MacOS X) where the DATA directory has to be at a different place (deb package: /var/lib/yacy and MacOS X: ~/Library/YaCy) use a symbolic link for that.

Segmentation Faults happen in programs (such as the JVM) due to memory errors. I guess that is not related to chroot.
